iconology - Cesare Ripa / 1644 Prattica or Deed of Work, Prattica is used by us as what is called by de Grieek Πριαξια: a word that is posited against the Theory. For as the theory itself turns to reason and to the movement of the understanding, just as the Prattica turns to work and to the movements of the minds, so that this rested upon the contemplative rest, which is chiefly the movement of the soul, so the Prattica rests on the work, which is chiefly the movement of the senses or experiences: considering the Theoria the contemplation of the highest achievements, but the Practica examines the lowest works, the one the supreme highest, the other the supreme ground of the whole building of Human consideration.
